When my daughter Penelope, first met Lisa, she was pretty much non-verbal. Penelope would mostly communicate by bringing you things, or taking your hand and leading you to what she wanted. Lisa began working with her right away improving her communication in more ways than one. Lisa taught her sign language, how to ask for specific items that she wanted, like a snack or a drink. Lisa was able to get her to verbalize so many of things that she wasn’t before. Lisa set specific goals and was always so patient, supportive and kind in getting her to where she needed to be.
Penelope has always been slow to warm up to people and she absolutely loves Lisa and did right away. We make jokes about how we feel like she is a part of our little family. As a mom to two Autistic children, it was absolutely invaluable to find someone who you felt loved and actually cared about your children and seeing them succeed. I will forever be grateful that our family was introduced to Sunny Start!

I cannot say enough good things about Sunny Start Therapies. My son started working with Miss Lisa after struggling with speech, especially articulation. After regular speech therapy sessions it was amazing to see the progress he made and continues to make. Communication was frustrating for him, as he tried to talk but we couldn’t understand him, usually resulting in tears (his as well as mine). It was heartbreaking trying to figure out what he was trying to say. He doesn’t have any problems communicating anymore and happily talks nonstop. I even forget sometimes that he ever had a problem to begin with which is hard to believe considering how bad his speech used to be. Lisa is so patient with him and tailors each lesson to target the specific area he needs help on. He has fun doing it because she turns it into a game and he doesn’t even know he is working. He gets excited when I tell him she is coming over. Overall it has been an awesome experience and I would highly recommend Sunny Start Therapies to anyone who has a kiddo who is struggling.

We have had the gift of Michelle in our life for over a decade almost. Our journey began with Michelle, after our son received his diagnosis of left hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Michelle was crucial in not only activating the capabilities that West had inside, but sharing her skill set and helping me as a parent understand the needs and functions of the occupational therapy he was receiving. Michelle only is a great practitioner, but she is a wonderful healer. If given a chance to work with Michelle, there would be no regrets, she has been an integral part of our lives. The skills she helped West develop have helped him thrive as he has grown older. We are lucky to have had her as an occupational therapist, but even more so as an excellent resource of knowledge and a friend through the whole process and beyond.
